We help you get admission to the best technical college or university for a B Tech in CSE degree.

Computer Science Engineering (CSE) is one of the most sought-after streams in engineering today. Every student wishing to pursue engineering makes a beeline for B Tech CSE courses. However, it is not always simple to get admission to this demanding course.

Here are a few pointers to help you sail through the admissions process:

* Know your reasons for securing admission.

Every second student wants to enrol for an engineering course, but not all of them are clear about their motivations in doing so. Ask yourself why you want to take up a B Tech CSE course. Are you good with analysis and problem solving? Do you have a head for numbers? Or is it because the jobs in CSE are lucrative and offer high starting salaries? Be clear about your reasons for taking up the course — you will certainly be asked this question during personal interviews and GDs, and you must be convincing in your answers.

* Look up the course requirements at the best technical universities.

The course requirements for autonomous technical universities differ from institution to institution. You might have a preferred college in mind to enrol for the engineering course. Study their admission eligibility criteria, documents required to submit with the application form, specific course requirements unique to that college or university, etc. This information will help you apply correctly to the college of your choice.

* Do well at the JEE Main or equivalent entrance exam.

Engineering admission normally requires the entrance exam score plus the board exam score you have in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. The national entrance exam for engineering courses is the JEE Main. If you have not appeared for it, then you might have to take the university or college’s entrance exam to be eligible for admission. You must also score in the top percentile to be able to get enrolment for B Tech CSE, which is always in high demand.

* Do well in the GDs and written tests at the college you apply to.

Apart from your exam scores, you must also do well in the personal interviews and Group Discussions (GDs) that are part of the admissions process. Students must appear confident, knowledgeable and willing to do well in the course, and interviewers are quick to pick up on these traits. Have all the information at the ready, and also ask questions about the college, coursework and the lectures.

* Apply to the college that gives admission, but keep looking.

Engineering courses are in high demand, and seats are limited to a few thousands per technical college. You might wish to take admission to a prestigious college, but you may not figure on their admitted students’ list right away. Instead, another college might offer you admission. Secure the seat that is being given to you and wait for your preferred college, but within reasonable limits only.
